Ricky Carmichael says his scariest crash crash came near the end of his career, coming at the St.Louis supercross in the whoops in 2006 when he went headfirst into the whoops and cracked his sternum but it could have been so much worse – and he went on to win the title!
RC said: ” The gnarliest crash I ever had was St. Louis 2006, I was going through the whoops and they were really small and close together and my hand slipped off. The bike rotated forward and my knees caught on the handlebars and my hands got caught and I couldn’t put my hands out as I was going into the whoops.
“Still to this day the memory is so vivid to me, I was like, please just let me walk away from this. I cracked my sternum and luckily I got up from it, but that was the scariest one ever.”
