Antonio Cairoli says SMX is on his mind and he might, consequently ride more outdoors in the States! Speaking to Lewis Phillips, Cairoli, one of the GOATs of the sport, says that with no whoops, the SMX is appealing and no doubt Ducati would love the brand exposure of seeing their machine in the glitz and glamour of stadium racing maybe a few months earlier than originally planned!
Cairoli said: “Yeah, I think there is a little bit of a chance also, I mean this SMX, you know, if you can qualify in the top 30 it can be also a thing, you know the SMX is without whoops. So, I don’t know… it’s just coming to my mind this week because I see the standing and I’m like already probably 42nd or 43th. It’s just one moto and I can be in the top 30 and can access the SMX so why not, you never know.”
On his MXoN chances, Cairoli said: “I expressed my will to race of course. Everytime I’ve been racing I’ve been also, in MXGP in front of the guys. But I know also the federation is really for young kids, so I respect both sides.”
Maybe an outdoor at Ironman to prep for the MXoN and qualify for SMX would be the perfect option!
