The 2026 MXGP FIM Motocross World Championships comes to the start of its final three rounds as we cross into Asia for the MXGP of Türkiye this weekend, as round 17 is hosted by the Afyon Motor Sports Center in the mid-western region of this historic nation that bridges two continents!
This GP could have its own historic context, as Jeffrey Herlings has put himself within reach of clinching his sixth Motocross World Championship, and his first for Honda HRC Petronas! The Dutchman has to gain two points on his nearest chaser, defending World Champion Romain Febvre, by the end of race one on Sunday to mathematically make himself impossible to catch. Even if that doesn’t happen, “The Bullet” is looking good to seal the deal by the end of the weekend. We have a strong chance of seeing him become only the fourth rider to win his sixth world title!
The MX2 class is still very much up for grabs, as Spaniard Guillem Farres has just 25 points between himself and Sacha Coenen, with the Belgian looking strong here last year and fired up to close that gap! Farres’ Triumph Racing teammate Camden McLellan has caught up to both of them as well, so the closing rounds should see a pulsating title battle in the quarter-litre contest!
