Guillem Farres continues to prove that his 2026 MX2 World Championship campaign is no fluke. While the Spaniard had never previously established himself as a genuine title contender, he is now firmly in the hunt after another commanding Grand Prix performance on his Triumph.
Fresh from a perfect 1-1-1 sweep in Portugal, Farres carried that momentum into the next round with another flawless display, taking victory with 1-1 race scores. Showing impressive consistency, confidence and composure under pressure, the Triumph rider looks to be getting stronger with every passing weekend and is firmly in a championship fight.
Despite his recent success, Farres insists his approach remains simple.
“My mentality is just going race by race. I felt pretty good yesterday when we got here. It was the same story as in Portugal. I haven’t really touched my bike, I stayed on my base setup and just focused on myself, focused on the riding. The starts were okay and that made my life much easier because yesterday my start was not so good in the qualifying moto and I had to work really hard in first laps. Today, in the first moto I started third, I made a quick pass in the first lap and in the second moto I started first. I’m happy with the team, with my trainer, with the mechanics. It’s a great group that we have going on and it’s nice to come to a race weekend where it doesn’t feel like I’m at work. It feels like I’m the kid when I was 10 or 12 years old going to the races with my Dad. It’s really good. For sure, it plays a big part and I can’t complain”.
Farres also highlighted how crucial his starts have become, allowing him to dictate the pace at the front and remain calm even when rivals are applying pressure throughout the race – a good skill to have.
“I actually didn’t get off to a great start in race two, I would say but it was decent. They (Simon and Sacha) both ran wide and I took my chance. It’s nice when you’re in the position and you’re leading, your goggles don’t get dirty, your bike doesn’t get dirty and you can just run your pace. At the same time, the guy that is just behind is following me – he can see my lines and read my lines. That’s one of my strong points, that I can have a guy on my ass for the whole moto and I don’t even get nervous at all. That’s how I did in the second moto”.
The Spaniard also joked about his podium celebrations, revealing he had little choice but to wear a special hat presented by his team.
“Even in the first moto, the guys were on my ass pretty much every lap and I just managed it. The hat on the podium was a little present from Manu. For sure, Clement (Desalle) wouldn’t like that because he’s really serious, but he cannot complain after I went 1-1. Actually, the team didn’t really give me an option. They said that I had to wear it”.
After eleven rounds of the MX2 World Championship, Farres has reduced the gap to championship leader Sacha Coenen to just 14 points. With the Triumph rider carrying incredible momentum and showing no signs of slowing down, the title race is shaping up to be an exciting battle. If Farres can continue producing performances like these, it will make him hard to beat.
