German rider, Cato Nickel is set for a fresh chapter in 2026 after signing with the German-based KMP Honda team, marking a significant change following several years within the KTM Group structure.

Nickel rose through the ranks in EMX competition with the WZ KTM team before later joining the Bauerschmidt Cat Moto setup, gaining valuable 450cc and MXGP experience. Now, the German rider will step away from KTM machinery as he will make the transition to Honda for the upcoming season.

For 2026, Nickel will focus primarily on the ADAC MX Masters series but is also expected to contest selected MXGP World Championship rounds as he continues his progression on the world stage.

“I’m really happy to have signed with KMP; it’s a big team with a lot of experience. I don’t have high expectations for the results. Of course, I’ll give 100%, but first I need to have fun riding my bike again, and then the results will come naturally. I really like the Honda; it’s very easy to ride and has plenty of power. I’m really looking forward to racing in MXGP and, of course, the entire ADAC MX Masters series”.

The KMP Honda team broke the news via social media:

“We are thrilled to announce our second new signing for 2026. Cato Nickel, a young and talented German rider, joins our team and will bring a breath of fresh air to the 450cc class.  We’re looking forward to the journey together! Welcome to the team, Cato”.
