After his rear wheel broke in race one causing a DNF it looked like the drama from AMA and GP racing and continued to the British championship but Britain’s best rider under pressure, Tommy Searle, took a steady fifth in race two to clinch the 2025 British 250 championship despite missing a round with a broken back giving Triumph their first British title at their first attempt!

Tommy said: “I was less nervous for the second moto than the first moto! Because I had put myself in a position to win it and then it was out of my control, I had done my bit. So it’s whatever happens.

“But I actually felt really comfortable out there, I was really enjoying the racing but I was really worried about the back wheel collapsing again, so I was rolling every jump and just trying to save the bike. It was the only thing that could have stopped it after Charlie (Heyman) didn’t get a great start, so I knew where I was.

“Really happy to get ot done, really happy for the team, for Triumph in their first year in British motocross and to get a championship in their first year is really good. The whole Dirtstore team, the effort they put in when we switched over to Triumph to now, it’s non-stop so a championship like this is a big thank you.

“When I come in today I just didn’t want to lose it because then I’ve just crumbled and I’m just a flop if I lost it with that points gap. Imagine if I crashed and got nervous and tucked the front a couple of times, to just get it done is it is a weight lifted off my shoulders.

“The problem I have is I am always fighting for a championship forever, from my very first British championship season, I lost it by a point. I think every year I have completed all the rounds I have either won or come within 3 points like last year. So every time I put myself in position to fight for a championship and I will be back next year so hopefully I can do the same again!”
