Chase Sexton is one of the most honest and genuine interviews you will watch and he proved it again on the AC JB Podcast when he admitted the grass isn’t always greener when it comes to switching bikes.
On his maturity over the years, and learning that riding around bike problems is part of being a great rider, Sexton said:
“Every bike has their weaknesses and strengths, no bike is perfect. I think the difference between being a good rider and a great rider is being able to ride a bike that you don’t necessarily feel comfortable on and going out there and still being able to perform.
“Hindsight, when I was on Honda, I was kind of a spoiled brat, I would complain about the bike a lot, I would say it in interviews, I said it last year about the KTM. I think that was me thinking the grass was always greener on the other side and that is not really the case, you always have those races when you feel good but there are a lot more races where you don’t feel comfortable and you have to over come it and I think that’s the difference between the good and great riders. The guys that overcome that are the guys that can compete for championships and make the best of their bad nights.”
In an example of the progress he has made on the KTM from Sexton said: “In 2024, a week before Anaheim one I was going around the whoops section on a supercross track. I have never crashed so many dang times… I didn’t do probably five 20 minute motos before the 2024 season, because I was scared to hit the whoops that many times in a row. The progress we have made from that time to this year…”
