Coming into the 2024 season, Rick Elzinga didn’t have much time on the bike as he broke his back coming into the first round.

It has now been revealed that Elzinga has picked up another off-season injury a year later. This time he has broken his elbow which has seen him off the bike for five weeks.

The injury means that Elzinga won’t be 100% prepared for the first round of the MX2 World Championship – in what is his final year racing the class due to the U23 age rule. The Factory Yamaha rider had a good season last year despite no winter so he’ll be hoping to produce the same again in 2025.

“I broke my elbow in January. I need to look at the positives. I’m much fitter and in better shape than I was at this time last year. Though it’s not convenient to pick up an injury this far into our preparation, I did get in a lot of testing and made a lot of changes to the bike in the off-season. I’m really happy with the bike, so even though I will miss 5 weeks of riding, I will go to Argentina with a good mindset and I’ll be there to win and that’s it”, Elzinga stated.
