He may have been the perfect rider for a 500, but Stefan Everts only raced one once at Grand Prix level and fittingly, it was at Namur. Legendary bike, legendary rider, legendary track.
Everts was the reigning 250 world champ but suited up for a one-off ride at Namur on an aluminium framed Honda and destroyed the 500cc field despite being in an intense battle with Seb Tortelli for the 250 world title at the time.
Everts who won Grand Prix races on a 125, 250, 500, 250f and 450f, told us last year of his memories of riding a 500, “I loved it. It was awesome.”
