Who impressed: MXGP class in Lommel

Jeffrey Herlings: How can you not be impressed by this guy in the sand? His momentum and riding style is simply something else and has to be seen to be believed. He rides a different track to the rest turning the bumps into jumps and using his legs to soak up bumps or spring himself over them. Herlings is the fastest man on the planet right now but Tony Cairoli is still just 33 points behind and it just takes another tip over like he had in Lommel to cause a small injury that could give Cairoli another chance at the title.

Max Anstie: The Brit bagged another podium after two good motos in Lommel where his technique in the sand really shone through. It has been a strong second half of the season for Anstie who kept charging all day long in Lommel and the podium will help his negotiating position as he looks for a ride next year. Anstie is tenth in championship but as he says, there isn’t much difference in speed between third and tenth in MXGP and recent races have shown Max is back on the pace he was hoping to be no from the start of the season.

Glenn Coldenhoff: Coldenhoff just missed the podium by a point but he is doing an excellent job as back up to Cairoli and Herlings for Red Bull KTM in MXGP. Glenn showed especially in the second moto that he he has pace to fight for a top three position when he gets away and rides to his potential. But as Anstie alluded too, MXGP is so deep right now that’s the start is crucial to giving yourself a chance to get on the box. Coldenhoff however has been very consistent, and in Lommel he showed the pace is still there when he gets away.

Graeme Irwin: The Irishman finally got that top 15 overall results he has been looking for all year in his rookie MXGP season and did it at the toughest round of the year! Ever since he came back from the third degree burns on his back, Irwin has shown the raw speed to be in the top 15 but at Lommel he was able to put it together for two 30 minutes motos and show the potential he has. It was a big moment for Irwin and should take a weight off his shoulders that could carry him forward to similar results for the rest of the season.
