Who impressed: EMX125 in Germany!

Who impressed: EMX125 in Germany!

It was a great weekend for Italian, Mattia Guadagnini as he clearly loved the technical hard pack conditions. The start of the EMX125 series hasn’t gone according to plan for the Maddi Husqvarna rider as he broke his collarbone at Valkenswward.

However, Guadagnini was able to put the tough start to the season behind him in Germany as he went 2-1 in the moto’s to clinch the overall and his first overall EMX125 victory. The young Italian secured a podium last year as a rookie on his TM so we shouldn’t be too surprised to see him winning. Guadagnini will be hoping for his season to turn around and that win could certainly be the start of it.

It’s really hard not to be impressed with the smooth and smart, Rene Hofer. The Austrian looked effortless on the bike and doesn’t make too many mistakes. The first moto couldn’t have went much better for the KTM Junior rider as he lead every single lap and won by over eleven seconds in the end.

In the second moto, Hofer couldn’t replicate his holeshot from the first moto as he was fourth at the end of the first lap. The young rider always stays calm in those situations and never rushes anything which is impressive for such a young rider. Hofer applied the pressure on Guadagnini with two laps to go but just came up short which meant he had to be happy with second overall. However, Hofer has now opened up a forty-eight points gap in the championship which is the bigger picture for the young talent.

One rider that’s really stepped up this year is Estonian talent, Meico Vettik. Vettik has been fast but hasn’t had the results to match his speed. However, that took a turn for the better this weekend in Germany.

Vettik ended up seventh and third in the moto’s to clinch third overall – that’s his first EMX125 podium. It’s always nice to see a privateer do well and Vettik is just doing that. He’ll be hoping to secure more results that match his speed during the rest of the season and hopefully secure a place in a team for next year.

He might well be a rookie but the 85cc World Champion from last year, Eddie Wade is showing us he’s a talent and one to keep an eye on in future. Wade came into the season injured which was a shame as it means we haven’t saw the best of him but he’s starting to show us what he’s capable of now.

Wade took a good start in the second moto and was sitting in second until around the half way point in the moto but he came home a comfortable and impressive third place. At the start of the second moto Wade was buried down the order in eighteenth but he worked his way up to eleventh in what was a solid ride. The Brit ended up sixth overall which is a good result and something to build on, it’s a shame he suffered from a poor start in the second moto as that cost him an overall podium.

The start of the season hasn’t gone to plan for young French talent, Matheo Miot as he only picked up six points during the first three rounds. However, Germany was much more like it and he’ll be hoping it’s the turning point of his season.

Miot ended up ninth and twelth in the moto’s to end up ninth overall and there’s no doubt he will be hoping for plenty more results in the top ten during the rest of the season.

Young Swiss rider, Mike Gwerder has really improved this year. Last year was his rookie season in the class and he failed to pick up a point. However, the young rider has clearly put in the hard work required over winter as he’s really upped his game.

Not only is he able to directly qualify for the main races but he’s picked up plenty of points this year. Gwerder ended up thirteenth overall which is a great achievement when you consider his results from 2017. The next goal for Gwerder will be to get a top ten overall result before the end of the series.
