Thursday 12 April 2018 — Following a successful start to the 2018 EMX125 series KTM Diga Junior Racing is proud to announce an extension of their contract with double EMX150 champion and multiple Finnish champion Emil Weckman. Weckman will stay with the Belgian team until the end of 2021.

The 16-year old from Sipoo is the only back-to-back champion in the history of the EMX150 championship. Emil came out of the gate strong in this year’s EMX125 championship. He won a career first European 125 moto in Arco di Trento, Italy last weekend and is currently second in the series. The talented Finn is set to move up to the super competitive EMX250 class next year. In line with KTM Diga Junior Racing’s calling to develop the potential of young riders it’s Weckman’s aim to enter the FIM MX2 World championship by 2021.

Over the years the KTM Diga Junior Racing squad, owned and managed by Dirk Saelen, has earned a strong reputation for rider development. The Belgian outfit collected rostrum results in MX2, EMX250 and EMX125.

Dirk Saelen, team manager KTM Diga Junior Racing: “We’re pleased to continue our relationship with Emil and his family. His recent results only confirm what we believe he’s capable of. It’s great to see that all the hard work everyone has been putting now starts to pay off! With Emil’s long-time commitment to the team in place we’ll continue to build the team to add other high-potential young riders to our line-up.”

Emil Weckman: “It’s great that I can stay with this awesome team when I move up to the 250 bike. The Diga Racing team feels like family by now. We all get along well, but everyone puts in the hard work too. That’s the way I like it! I’m actually really looking forward to ride in the EMX250 class. Racing on a 125 is a lot of fun but I have to admit that my style is more suited to the fourstroke. Obviously we remain 100% focused on the EMX125 series for now!”
