Back injury forces Vlaanderen out of Arco

Calvin Vlaanderen won’t be racing the final five rounds of the season with a back injury sidelining the Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha rider who has had an impressive season and was knocking on the door of a top ten in the world championship.

Vlaanderen said on social media: “Hey guys, unfortunately I will have to miss the coming rounds due to a disc hernia in the lower back. I started to feel the pain last week in Spain, I thought I could get it fixed and be ready for Arco but it’s just gotten worse. The nerve is being touched and I’ve lost feeling down my leg. It’s never easy to make these decisions because I want to race but at the end of the day my health comes first. I will have further tests this week and see what the procedure is going forward.”
