Video interview: Jeffrey Herlings – it’s going to be a tough comeback!
Jeffrey Herlings caught up with Lisa Leyland in Russia on the eve of his Grand Prix return but immediately dampened down any expectations of running at the front.
“It’s been a long time off, it’s been nine months or so since I’ve been racing. It’s going to be difficult, it’s a difficult track to come back too, Russia,” offered the pragmatic defending world champion. “We are just going to take it as a good practice, I feel I am not in the position right now, to do podiums or winning. I just want to go out, have fun and do the best possible results I can and work from there. It’s going to take a few more weeks or months to comeback to my old level. I will be happy with anything from 5-12.”
“It been mentally very tough,” he admitted on the injury and long recovery time. “You want to defend your championship then just a few weeks before the season starts you shatter your foot. It’s over four months ago and I still have swelling and pain in the foot, I feel like it’s getting better every week but it will take time.”
