Van Doninck and ASA United Husqvarna part ways

It was Brent van Doninck’s first year on the 450cc and after failing to secure an MXGP ride, the Belgian inked a deal with the ASA United Husqvarna.

COVID-19 meant there wasn’t a British Championship but the Belgian did race the MX Nationals as well as a couple of MXGP races with the team. Van Doninck then had the change to fill in at the Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha team for the last three MXGP rounds and really impressed!

It remains to be seen what the Belgian will do in 2021 but it sounds like he has has secured an MXGP ride. It remains to be seen if it’s with the Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha team or another team in the paddock.

ASA United Husqvarna posted the following statement regarding Van Doninck:

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the departure of our 450 pilot, Brent Van Doninck moving on into the 2021 season.

BVD has been a formidable force in the UK this year and we could not have been any more blessed than to have had someone of his calibre representing the team in MX1.

It is a shame that our plans for this year were so majorly impacted by Covid-19, however Brent still claimed the most race wins at a professional level in British Motocross in 2020, and in our opinion was the fastest rider in the UK this year, bar none.

The man is exceptionally gifted and deserves the opportunity to ride with the best in the world (as he proved in the final few rounds of the MXGP). We would have loved to have accommodated for Brent once again next season, however a full year of MXGP is not something that we are able to facilitate at this moment in time.

We look forward to seeing Brent lining up with the best on the world’s stage and showing everyone what he is capable of! We wish Brent all the luck in the world and we are extremely proud to have been part of this young man’s journey!
