Tomac says he will race the MXoN again if he gets the opportunity!

2020 US supercross champion Eli Tomac says he will race the MXoN in the future if selected after not being available for the 2019 race at Assen and the AMA announcing that they will not attend the 2020 edition of the famous race.

Speaking to Jeremy McGrath, Tomac said: “It’s tough to say, you know? That experience is so cool, the whole weekend and the event, you look back on those and you don’t want to take them for granted. If we got the opportunity I’d go for sure.”

Tomac however didn’t mention any goals of trying to win a world motocross championship when asked if he had any goals left to accomplish: “It’s so hard to say, back to back (450 supercross titles) would be really cool. I still love the racing aspect of it and just being competitive so as long as I feel I an give myself a shot at winning that when I feel like I’m going to keep going, that’s what really drives me.”

The two then had an interesting chat about the differences between supercross and motocross with seven time supercross champion and one time outdoor champ McGrath, perhaps surprisingly, saying he felt a bigger sense of accomplish winning an outdoor race than a supercross. ” I was always labelled ‘Mr Supercross guy’, but I can tell you, when I won an outdoor race, I sure felt it. My body felt beat up, I felt exhausted and the sense of accomplishment for me was quite a bit more in outdoor.

Tomac then explained how his exhaustion differs in both disciplines: “The effort is different, it’s just different right? At the end of an motocross day you are just drained, done, muscles are done in supercross it’s more like your brain, my brain gets tired at the end of the night – you are mentally worn out. I don’t know man, they are both so unique in there on way.

McGrath concurred saying: “It’s like a different kind of exhaustion for supercross, like you said, your brain tends to work a little bit harder when it comes to supercross, you get a bad start, it’s a busy night.”

On how he values all his championships, Tomac says it’s the 450 ones that mean the most to him: “The way I look at it is, when you win the 450 championships, those are the ones you really look back on. The 250 championships to me, they are like the stepping stones, right? So those I don’t try to pat myself on the back too much about but the 450 championships, you know you are racing all of the best guys, it is the top of the sport. So those are the ones I look back on and think, heck yeah, those were good.”
