Tomac on his win at Detroit – it was such a better weekend!
It was a big night for Eli Tomac in Detroit. Win and he was back in the title battle, another big mistake and he could well be seeing his title ambitions all but over for another year.
After two wins and a somewhat shaky sixth, Tomac did enough to win the overall and vault himself back into title contention, now 13 points behind leader Webb in fourth, but he knew the pressure was on going into Detroit. “Tonight, if I had a race again like last week, I would say it was pretty close to being over with for that championship,” admitted the US 450 motocross champ.
“Gosh it was a such a better weekend,” he continued. “We were feeling it through all the practices, going into the third main there, you can get a bit too comfy and totally blew the start there, then went flying off the track and almost hit the haybale. I got it back together, of course coop is charging to the front and I’m like, Gosh man, we gotta go! It was such a better weekend for us and it just feels good to be here.”
On what changed from last week, Eli said he found more comfort with the machine after some testing. “ It was kind of a light switch really, last week all I did was go backwards, it was just a struggle. We actually went to California this week and did some testing and got comfier and it paid off.”
So will this win be the start of some Tomac domination?
