Three weeks until British Motocross hits Desertmartin!
The 2016 ACU MAXXIS British Motocross Championship fourth round at Desertmartin is only 3 weeks away (Sunday 12th June), and Ballyclare rider Martin Barr is coming to his favourite circuit carrying the red plate of Championship leader in the MX2 Class.
After round 3 at Hawkestone Park in Shropshire at the weekend, Buildbase Honda rider Barr topped the podium and arrives at his home round as leader of a British Championship, the first time an Ulster rider has done so since the heyday of Gordon Crockard in the early 2000’s.
Martin is in a tight fight at the top between himself, Steven Clarke and Bryan McKenzie, although he has opened a six point gap on Clarke.
He is ably supported by his team mate Carrickfergus native Graeme Irwin who consolidated his third position in the Championship after Hawkestone with a fine fourth overall behind Grand Prix regulars Shaun Simpson Tommy Searle and Tanel Leok.
Popular Dubliner Stuart Edmonds lies 14th overall on the CCM Racing TM450 in MX1 after a bad day at Hawkestone, only collecting 4 points.
With Martin & Graeme vying for podium places, and the prospect of Wild Card entries for more local riders, this is a great opportunity for the fans to help cheer home some great results for locals on their one chance to have home field advantage.
