DIGA KTM PR:

KTM Diga Junior Racing rider Miro Sihvonen successfully maintained the red leader plate after an eventful day in Jauer for round two of the ADAC Youngster Cup. Sihvonen dominated the first moto, his third race win in the highly regarded German MX2 series. In the second moto the young Finn was forced to retire after diclocating his shoulder.

Sihvonen finished runner-up to Bas Vaessen in the ADAC Youngster Cup last year and marked the series crown as one of his main goals for the season. After his double moto win in the opening round at Fürstlich Drehna and his EMX250 victory in Valkenswaard last weekend Miro entered the weekend confidently. The KTM Diga Junior Racing rider had a great showing in the opening moto. He grabbed the holeshot, and would go on to win after leading every single lap.

After a mediocre start Sihvonen rounded out the first lap 8th but a spill relegated him to 16th. In his usual style he started to pick off riders allowing him to regain 8th by the halway point. Fighting for fifth place Miro had a moment on the slippery take-off of one of the table top jumps. He managed to save it but the impact of the landing dislocated his right shoulder. Unable to continue due the pain the 18-year old pulled out of the race. Initial examinations of his shoulder confirmed that he didn’t suffer any damage to the shoulder.

Miro Sihvonen: “That was a strange day! Riding in the first moto had been going well. I was able to pull away once I had made it into the lead. I think I had built up a 10 second gap when I started to notice something awkward with the rear wheel. That’s why I rode a bit more conservatively but I still managed to win by more than 3 seconds. It wasn’t as if I was pushing in the second moto after I made that error on the second lap. Before the moto they had put some water on the track and I slid away going up this table top. Although I kept it on two wheels it became quickly clear to me something was off. I never experienced a dislocation before but the pain was telling me all I needed to know! Luckily nothing is injured so we keep an eye on the shoulder this week before heading to Kegums. It was a disappointing end of the day but at least I’m still leading the Youngster Cup even when it’s only by one point.”
