Sihvonen: At this level you have to be completely 100% fit!
With limited bike time before the start of the season, the first round of the EMX250 Championship didn’t go to plan for one of the favourites, Miro Sihvonen.
Last season, Sihvonen picked up a serious knee injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season. Just when he thought he was fully recovered with plenty of time to prepare for the 2018 season, the Finn started to get plan in his knee. He went to the doctor to get it checked out and he needed another operation!
Sihvonen didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for round one and unfortunately didn’t qualify for the main races.
Hopefully with round two at Portugal in three weeks time, Sihvonen will be much stronger.
Sihvonen posted the following update on social media:
I wanted to think that i was ready and put it in my mind, but sometimes even that isn’t enough. The facts are facts… on this level you have to be completely 100% fit and have months of training to compete. During the past year i was more than 8 months off a dirtbike and had around 15 hours of bike time, and 2 weeks riding after the last operation. I did everything what was possible to do during the whole winter but the last set back was simply just too much. Sports are simple. You just gotta put in the work to succeed, now i will have 3 weeks to do that before the next round in Portugal. Huge thank you to my team and everybody who have been sticking behind me in the tough times.✌
