Rumours: Tonkov to Factory KTM & Herlings to MXGP in 2016?

The latest rumour is that it seems Jeffrey Herlings has decided what to do next year and it is to move up to the MXGP class! Apparently KTM have moved to sign Alexandr Tonkov in MX2 next year as his replacement. KTM were linked with him last year so you shouldn’t be too shocked about this decision from KTM if it is true.

Pit Beirer recently said in his interview in the On Track Off Road magazine that if Jeffrey does move up to MXGP that he will stay under the awning he is currently in – with the MX2 riders. If the rumours are true then Tonkov, Jonass and Herlings will be under that awning.

It would be unlikely that Davy Pootjes will be with them as that would be four riders in the same awning so it will be interesting to see what 2016 holds for him. You would think that KTM would want to keep him so they could possibly give him Factory support but at a different team such as Silver Action or Marchetti? Although, having said that Marchetti are interested in signing Maxime Desprey for MX2 in 2016.

KTM let Tim Gajser leave and that has come back to haunt them so you would think that they will be reluctant to let Davy leave as he is a rider for the future.

It looks as though that Jacky Martens will move to sign Max Anstie to ride MX2 for him next year as Alexsandr’s replacement and it is thought that Dean Ferris will stay with him as well. It will be interesting to see if Jacky will have the budget to have another MX2 rider which would mean a three rider line up.
