Rumour: Gautier Paulin set to leave Ice One Husqvarna?

A few weeks ago we first heard speculation that Gautier Paulin could be set to leave Ice One Husqvarna and ever since the rumour has been gathering pace.

The French rider has been strongly linked to the Wilvo Yamaha team. Of course, Paulin has been with Yamaha before but that was the factory setup. Even though the Wilvo Yamaha team isn’t full factory they do receive factory engines.

It’s just been confirmed that Jeremy Seewer will switch awnings to partner Romain Febvre under Michele Rinaldi’s factory setup after he’s had a strong rookie year in the MXGP World Championship – this means there’s a spot available at the Wilvo Yamaha team for 2019.

Seewer replaces Jeremy Van Horebeek who’s been loyal since moving to Yamaha but is currently without a ride for next year, you have to wonder what the future holds for him. We spoke to Van Horebeek earlier in the year and he said if he doesn’t get a decent offer then he could consider retirement – that would be a huge shame and hopefully it doesn’t come to that.

If Paulin does make the rumoured switch to Wilvo Yamaha he will partner Arnaud Tonus who the team have decided to keep faith in despite missing the entire MXGP season so far. It means that Shaun Simpson will be out of the team and looking for a ride elsewhere as the Wilvo Yamaha team want to go back to two riders as oppose to three.

The move would mean that the Ice One Husqvarna team will head into the 2019 season with an all new rider line up as they’d need to sign a replacement for Paulin. Also, if they knew Paulin was leaving it’s a surprise they also let Max Anstie leave the team who’s rumoured to be joining the factory HRC Honda team for 2019.

One of the worst keep secrets in the paddock is that Arminas Jasikonis will join the Ice One Husqvarna setup for 2019 but if Paulin does indeed leave they’ll be on the look out to sign another top class rider.

We will continue to keep you updated as and when we hear more.
