Eli Tomac put on another late-race charge in moto two to pass Roczen and Musquin to take the moto win and the overall to win Budds Creek sand extend his points lead to 20 points over a de-tuned Musquin.

Tomac said he decided it was, “go time” half way through race two as he put the hammer down to reel in the fading leaders from 11 seconds back after a frustrating third race one where Tomac didn’t have any extra pace on Musquin or Roczen.

Marvin led both races as Tomac was mired back in the pack but he let Roczen go with two laps to go in race one, settling for second and went from first to fourth in race two, before admitting this week was, “a tough one,” after a big crash while practicing on Tuesday left him feeling fortunate to be able to race at Budds Creek.

Roczen meanwhile ride superb in race one to pass Musquin early and take the win, and even when Tomac passed Roczen for the lead late in race two Roczen looked like he was going to get the overall with a 2-1 until Blake Baggett surged pass with his own late race charge, leaving Roczen ruing a cold and his fitness in the Budds Creek humidity that ultimately cost him the overall.

In MX2 RJ Hampshire took his first US overall victory going 1-2 and the MX2 US GP winner of 2017 was overjoyed with finally getting a US National win.

But the big story was Aaron Plessinger, who won the 250 US National chdampionship with a flawless first moto win to make it a perfect year so far as he adds the outdoor title to the 250 supercross and now he has the chance to add the MXoN title to his dream season at Red Bud in October.
