Tony Cairoli took the holeshot but Herlings moved into second by the halfway point and started reeling Cairoli in when Cairoli lost the front wheel on a rutted downhill section and handed the lead and ultimately the win to his Dutch rival despite a few hard charging laps when he got up. Jeremy Van Horebeek rode very well for third.
Herlings said: “I’m very happy, I had a far outside gate and pulled off a pretty good start. We came back to second and pressured Tony and he made a small mistake.”
Jeffrey Herlings did it again! The Dutchman ran down Cairoli from 12 seconds back to win the second moto and the overall in front of jublilent home crowd! Cairoli never stopped pushing but a big mistake with 2 to go halted his quest to pass Herlings back. The duo’s pace was so fast they put over a minute on third placed Paulin!
Herlings: “It was a tough one, the start where I came from wasn’t easy. Tony hoelshot and made a big gap but I managed to close it and pass him. I think we were carrying a high speed because that felt like we were going fast!”
