Tony Cairoli took the win after starting side-by-side with Herlings and edging his rival out of the gate. Cairoli then quickly passed Max Anstie to take the lead on lap one and controlled the race in customary fashion. Anstie thought rode really well and kept Cairoli in his sights the entire race.

Febvre rode well to come through to third with Tonus riding excellent for fourth. Herlings, who started just inside the top ten, was putting the pressure on Tonus late in the race when he went down in a left-hander and would ultimately finish sixth behind teammate Glenn Coldenhoff.

Cairoli said the track was “very difficult” it was easy to get arm-pump and he didn’t have the speed to pull away, so he “controlled the race.”

It was a bad day for team Honda with both Gajser and Bobby going down in turn one. The crash saw Gajser going into the pits for repairs with what appeared to be damaged spokes, ruining his gate pick for tomorrow.
