Qatar MXGP: One week to go!!

The top GP riders have had their warm up races whether it at Hawkstone, Lacapelle or the International Italian Championships but the wait is nearly over for the MXGP and MX2 World Championships to get underway.

Next weekend the gate will drop at Qatar and don’t forget the qualification day is on Friday with the Saturday being the main race day.

The MXGP World Championship should be better than ever with Antonio Cairoli looking like he’s back to his best, winning five races out of six he competed in during pre-season. Jeffrey Herlings moves up to the class and will want to prove his doubters wrong that don’t think he will be able to last the season without getting injured. Add in current MXGP Champ, Tim Gajser, 2015 MXGP Champ, Romain Febvre and we really are in for a treat.

We can’t forget about riders like Clement Desalle, Max Nagl, Jeremy Van Horebeek, Jordi Tixier and Evgeny Bobryshev. The amount of world class riders in the class is a mouth watering prospect and should provide some amazing racing throughout the course of the season.

In MX2 the mentality of the riders will change as they will be glad to see the back of the amazing Jeffrey Herlings. Most of them will have just spent the winter training to win and knowing this will be their best chance in years at the title.

It’s hard to believe that Thomas Covington goes into the season as the only rider to experience winning an MX2 overall GP win. My guess is that there will be plenty of riders that will experience that feeling throughout the 2017 season as there is so much talent in the class!

We are just one week away until Qatar with qualifying taking place next Friday, if you haven’t already then buy your MXGP TV season pack to watch all the action live and on demand, you won’t be disappointed!
