Positive return to action for Jordan Eccles!

Following a lengthy period of recovery, SJP Moto Husqvarna’s Jordan Eccles returned to racing over the previous two weekends at the Michelin MX Nationals at Preston Docks and Hawkstone Park. Since lacerating his Liver at the opening round of the Michelin MX Nationals, Eccles has been resting and recovering away from the bike and after just over a week of riding he was keen to get back racing.

Upon arriving at the revamped Preston Docks circuit that team and Jordan were both realistic in their approach for the weekend and wanted to gain two steady results. The morning qualifying session saw Jordan post a solid lap time late in the session to finish 8th fastest in the MX2 class. With a good gate pick for the races the team were positive of a good day.

In the opening race Jordan made a good start and was 4th in the MX2 class early on, but as the race progressed Jordan slipped back to 11th in the MX2 class at the finish as he struggled to maintain the race pace of the riders around him.

With his first race under his belt, Jordan lined up for the second moto and after a bad start he put his head down and charged forward for the whole moto to finish with a strong 8th place finish. The two results gave him 9th overall on the weekend and a solid base to build upon for the following weekend at Hawkstone Park.

A week later the team arrived at Hawkstone Park for the third round of the Michelin MX Nationals and were hoping to continue the progress with Jordan in his return to racing. During the qualifying session Jordan struggled with the wet track and made a few mistakes which meant he ended the session as 14th fastest in the MX2 class

With a poor gate pick Eccles had to work hard in the opening moto and after pushing forward in the opening laps, he was to slip back to 15th in the MX2 class at the finish.

After regrouping between moto’s Eccles went to the line for the second moto looking for a better result. Jordan rounded the first few turns in the mid pack and quickly moved himself forward and into a top 10 position. As the race progressed Jordan continued to move forward and finished the moto in 6th place and posting lap times similar to the leading riders.

The two results gave Jordan 9th overall in the MX2 class and sees him sitting 13th in the championship after the opening three rounds, having missed the opening round.

The team and Jordan now have four weeks to prepared for the next round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship at Desertmartin where they will be looking to be on top form once again.

Jordan Eccles – MX2 Rider – The past two weekends for me have been tough to say the least. Having 5 weeks of complete rest to coming back racing is tough. I still feel fit and strong, but the race intensity is what I’ve been lacking and this weekend at Hawkstone it was nice to see it come back. Preston both races weren’t too good for me as I just really struggled all weekend. I came into Hawkstone sort of knowing just to have fun and ride relaxed. Moto 1 I felt really good on the bike for the first 15 minutes then a rock or something hit my lense and smashed the roll off. Before race 2 me and Leighton had a good chat and we knew I just had to forget about the race and just have fun on the bike. It was the best I’ve felt for a long time. The result still isn’t where I want to be but I have to build from it. I must say a big thank you to Steve, Leighton and Mick at SJP Moto for all their work through the week and on the weekend. Everyone else in my corner also thank you we have a good few weeks now to get back up to race speed ready for Desertmartin.

Leighton Haigh – Team Manager – The last two weekends have been a rebuilding process for Jordan as he is still recovering from him injury. Preston was a tough weekend with coming back into top level racing after 5 weeks off the bike was always going to be. All the other riders are on top form and it’s hard to step back into the action. Overall we had two solid rides at Preston and it gave us something to build upon. Coming into Hawkstone we were looking to progress further and although the first race was tough and not the result we were hoping for we are all pleased and feeling positive with the strong ride in the second race for 6th place. We now have 4 weeks to prepare for the next round of the Maxxis Championship at Desertmartin and hope to be back where we belong.
