Jake Nicholls broke his leg in 2018 which meant he missed out on the British Championship he looked odds on for winning. Nicholls had hoped to be back on the bike at around Christmas time which would have left him enough time to prepare for 2019.

However, the Brit has picked up an infection and has been advised to stay off the bike until April. It means he will miss the start of the season and it rules him out winning the Maxxis British Championship yet again.

It comes to a big blow for the Buildbase Honda team as well as they don’t have an MX1 rider in place for the start of the season – it remains to be seen if they will draft in a replacement rider.

You can read the latest on Nicholls here and he also posted the following update on social media:

Heartbroken to say I’m not going to make the start of the 2019 season. It’s been a horrible 3 months since I broke my leg and it continues. Click the link in my bio to read more. 🙁
