New Zealand select MXoN team for Assen

“We are going Racing” were the words that came from Motorcycling New Zealand’s MXON Team Managers only a few hours ago.

This year the focus is on our MXON Development program and therefore a pure development team has been selected. The New Zealand MXON team will be led by Dylan Walsh who this season rose to the top of the British MX2 championship in fine style and is currently leading the championship with only a few rounds remaining.

Dylan will be focused on the MX2 class while young and talented Wyatt Chase and Maximum Purvis will run the MX1 and Open classes.

Wyatt has had a stella year in the MX2 class here in NZ and has moved up to competing on the 450 a number of months ago and has really showed maturity and will be a great fit in the MX1 class.

Maximus has campaigned the Australian Motocross Nationals series – in the MXD class and has just come off the end of the series 2nd overall and with his great showing in the final double header last weekend in Coolum he is ready to go in the deep sands of Holland.

Team Management Bevan Weal and Shayne King have had plenty of experience with the best in the business here in NZ and are looking forward to building on the development side of our sport and helping to work towards the growth within the youth of motocross here in New Zealand.

New Zealand has a strong record at this most prestigious of MX events, which attracts teams from almost 40 countries, having taken third on three occasions (1998, 2001 and 2006) and an eighth place finish in 2015.

Shayne King said this year our focus is on the development side of the sport and is important to work on the future to help develop more champions and give them the experience. This year with several of our top rider’s currently injured or unable to ride we felt this is our chance to work with the youth of our sport and develop a stronger rider line up for the future.

The Assen track will be the toughest track on the world motocross circuit this year so we have plenty of experience to gain from taking the young guns of our sport.

Both Bevan and Shayne are really proud to have the chance to work with the 3 riders and to have Penny Homes and Best Build Construction seeing our vision and continuing their support of our team along with the Taupo Motorcycle Club through the support of the Battle of The Clubs event.

Without the support of the riders and clubs around the country, we would not have this chance so thank you to everyone.

Ray Broad Motorcycling New Zealand’s MX Commissioner is looking forward to the MXON in Assen, especially with three of New Zealand’s best up and coming riders. This is a fantastic opportunity for Dylan, Wyatt and Maximus to compete together on the world stage. With a difficult track, these three will give nothing less than their best and do New Zealand proud. The management team of Bevan and Shayne are ready to go.

Supported by major sponsor Penny Homes and associated partner Best Build Construction, the team will travel to Assen Holland to challenge for the Motocross of Nations crown on the weekend of 28th – 29th September 2019.
