It might take some time getting used to Max Nagl on a TM. The German has been with plenty of manufactures whilst competing in the MXGP World Championship from KTM, Honda and Husqvarna but it was quite a surprise to see him sign a deal with TM, especially since they didn’t even have an MXGP rider last year!
There’s no doubt that Nagl’s main job is to develop the 450cc TM and to keep improving the bike so it has a good future in the class.
Nagl contested the International Italian Championship during the pre-season but things didn’t look great for him during the first round as he was pretty far off the pace. He also picked up a small injury which meant we didn’t see him at round two and he missed some vital bike time.
However, compared to the first round, Nagl was much better in Mantova than he was at the first round and the German is known not to take too many risks during pre-season.
At Mantova, Nagl ended up fifth in the MX1 moto and sixth in the super-final so he will go into the first round of the MXGP World Championship round at Argentina much happier on the back of that performance.
It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how he performs on the TM throughout the course of the season. It’s only a few season’s ago he shocked the world and had the red plate before picking up an injury so on his day he’s certainly capable of running at the front.
