MXGP of Germany: Who impressed in MX2?

MXGP of Germany: Who impressed in MX2?

After winning the first GP of his career in Indonesia earlier this season, Jeremy Seewer could add to that this weekend in Germany as he won the second GP of his career.  The Swiss rider doesn’t make it easy for himself due to bad starts. He worked his way from outside the top five in race one to pass everyone in front of him including Pauls Jonass to win moto one.

Seewer suffered from an even worse start in the second moto and a mistake on the first lap running him off course didn’t help. He crossed the first lap in eighth but spent too long in behind Cervellin. He eventually got back to fourth passing championship rival Pauls Jonass once again to clinch the GP win. As he beat Jonass in both moto’s he has the championship gap down to 37 points. Seewer is clearly stronger in hard pack and looking at the races to come, don’t count him out just yet!

It was a superb weekend for Suzuki and team manager, Stefan Everts as Hunter Lawrence made it a Suzuki 1-2! The Aussie has a lot of potential and he finally showcased that as it all clicked together this weekend.  He started the first moto in eighth but worked his way up to an impressive fourth.

The second moto was even better as he ended up third and less than four seconds behind the race winner! Lawrence has showed good speed this season but hasn’t had the results to show up for it up until Germany, he will be hoping to carry on from this. Second overall is a superb result and it’s his best GP to date. He will look back on this day with fond memories in the future.

It’s starting to look like Thomas Covington has figured out how to deal with the different kind of tracks the world championship has to offer. The American in the past has been pretty inconsistent but this year is looking like one of the fastest riders in the class – a bit like Lawrence he hasn’t had the results to match his speed but mostly down to crashes!

The weekend didn’t start great as he was involved in a pile up on the first lap. He could work his way up to fourteenth from pretty much dead last. However, the second moto was a different story as he got a good start in third. He wasn’t content sitting in third as he made moves on Paturel and Jonass ahead of him to end up winning the second moto. The pile up in the first moto cost him a podium but a fourth overall is still nothing to get upset about. Covington’s good performances show that American’s can be competitive in the GP paddock, it just takes time to adapt to the tracks and a lot of hard work!

It’s been an underwhelming season so far for Brian Bogers as he was expected to be one of the front runners in the class on his HSF Logistics KTM. This weekend was nothing to get too excited about but two seventh’s in the moto’s meant he ended up sixth overall which is definitely an improvement, especially when you consider the track – Germany wasn’t a track that really suited him. A step in the right direction and he will be hoping things start to turn his direction now, he’s capable of podiums on a regular basis when things fall into place.

The last few GP’s have been tough for HRC man, Michele Cervellin due to a hand injury meaning he hasn’t been able to train as he would like. It looks like that’s behind him now as he was back in the top ten where he belongs this weekend. He took a great start in the first moto as he was sitting in second and he stayed there for four laps and looked pretty comfortable. He then got some of the dreaded arm pump so had to be happy with sixth which is still a good result after a few disappointing GP’s.

In the second moto the start wasn’t quite as good but he was still in the top five on the first lap. He came home in a solid eighth for seventh overall. Now he can train like he wants he should be even better in France this weekend.

A shout out to German pair, Brian Hsu and Henry Jacobi as they had strong first moto’s. They finished fifth and eighth respectively in the first moto but unfortunately both DNF’d the second moto. Hopefully their good first moto’s will give them the confidence they need as they both have the potential for those kinds of results on a regular basis.
