Meara, Stynes & Sheridan talk Coupe de l’Avenir!

Meara, Stynes & Sheridan talk Coupe de l’Avenir!

Team Ireland were in action at the prestigious Coupe de l’Avenir event in Belgium at the weekend.

Jason Meara suffered from a back injury earlier in the year but made a fast recovery and was present for Ireland at the weekend. Meara showed some good speed as he always does at these sort of events. He finished the moto’s in eighth, twelfth and thirteenth to secure an impressive tenth overall. Some crashes cost him an even better result but he should be happy with his tenth overall racing against some of the next biggest talents in Europe.

One of the most improved Irish riders this year is Jake Sheridan. Like Meara, crashes and mistakes cost him some very impressive results. Nonetheless, he still managed to finish twenty-fifth, fourteenth and nineteenth in the moto’s to secure sixteenth overall. There’s no doubt Sheridan would have learnt lots over the course of the weekend.

Last but not least was TM’s Dylan Stynes who was riding the wheels of his 125cc all weekend. Stynes ended up twenty-seventh, thirty-second and twenty-ninth in the moto’s. His results meant he ended up thirty-second overall.

Ireland ended up ninth overall in the open class thanks to the efforts of the three riders.

Overall, Ireland also finished ninth and for such a small country isn’t a bad result at all.

A shout out to the 85cc riders Aaron Gray, Ross Kearns and Jake Maunsell for their efforts over the course of the weekend. Also, the 65cc riders, Jake Farrelly, Charley Irwin and Fin Wilson. Hopefully they will get the opportunity to represent Ireland again in the future.

Jason Meara: “The moto’s didn’t go quite how I wanted them too. As I have been off a bike for so long this year my fitness just wasn’t there but I rode with my heart on my sleeve and pulled out some decent results. Once again it was a fantastic event with a nice atmosphere. I think for such a small country we didn’t do too bad against the rest of Europe. I’d like to thank Mick Mcginn for having everything organised, I couldn’t have asked for a better team manager”.

Jake Sheridan: “My first race was underway and I didn’t get the start that I was wanting too but it had to do. I was running in eleventh but then had a crash and finished twenty-fifth. In the second moto again I didn’t get the start I wanted but was able to finish a solid fourteenth. Again in the last moto I didn’t get the start I wanted again but I was in twelfth until I tipped over in a corner which meant I ended up nineteenth!

It was a great experience for me as it was my first Coupe de I’Avenir event to be selected for. It’s a great event to be part of and hats off to the manager, the team and the parents. We all did our best and I thought all our riders were riding great. Little mistakes cost us a better result but it’s all a learning curve and a great experience for us riders.”

Dylan Stynes: “It was a really good weekend racing at the Coupe de l’Avenir (U21 Motocross of Nations) in Belgium for Ireland. Thanks to the Team Manager, Mick McGinn for doing a great job organising everything.

The racing was good and the competition was always going to be tough racing against some of the best riders in Europe and especially on a 125 I had never even sat on. I enjoyed it and it didn’t take me long to find a good set up. We qualified sixth on Saturday and finished ninth on Sunday. Jake, Jason and myself all rode our hearts out and there was only like 1 point separating sixth to tenth so it was very close.

I just want to say a massive thank you to Mike Woodsworth from TM UK for the bikes and for working on them all weekend, Gavin and Nickie Craigie for organising it all and of course my Mam and Dad for getting me here. Also, a big thank you to the people that supported me this year it’s greatly appreciated, CCM Racing, CCR, Corcoran Chemicals, Metcon, TMCMotoX, Fox Head Europe, Macho Martial Arts, Electraction, Jimmy Jones Plant Hire, Swords Motor Factors, Vrooam, ReTink Graphics, Spence Racing, TMUK, Renthal, Ryno Power, SEC Academy, A96Filming”.
