Max Anstie on how hard it is to get an MXGP podium

After getting on the box, Max Anstie spoke to the media at the MXGP of Belgium in Lommel and had some interesting things to say on how hard it is to secure a podium at the MXGP World Championship.

On his weekend at Lommel…

It’s always nice to be back up on the podium. It was a tough one and they made me work for it. In the first one I didn’t get a great start but I came through. Romain Febvre was riding really well this weekend and I couldn’t catch him in the first race. In the second race I got a better start and got around a few guys, Glenn (Coldenhoff) was riding really good. I got into third and felt pretty good but then I crashed so I was like “ahh mate, I’m going to have to do it all over again!”. I was eating sand the whole time but it was two solid and consistent rides all weekend. It’s been good, you know I was sick coming into this. I had the cold and I hadn’t had the cold in ages so that set me back and especially with the heat. It’s nice to be back up here and we go into Switzerland feeling good, I’m looking forward to it.

On what he needs to do for more podiums…

Of course, I want to be on the box but man it’s hard to be on the podium. I know these two (Herlings and Cairoli) are on the podium all the time but it’s not, I tell you that! The amount of work we do, I mean even in Czech Republic, I got a really good start, Saturday I was up there feeling great. Then I got a bad start and I was battling for a ninth or tenth place. I know these two have an edge on everyone else but the gap from third to tenth – you can be battling with great guys for those positions, have an amazing race and still finish tenth! You can also have an awesome race and finish third. Of course I want to be back up here and do the best job I can and at the end of the day try to be on the box but I know there’s a lot of guys that want to be on the box.

On his plans for 2019…

No, no, no, nothing yet.  At the moment I’m just focused on doing my job and doing the best job that I can with my team. They put everything into me and my team mate and these are the results that we need to be getting. The Rockstar Husqvarna racing team, the boys are putting everything out there for us and they’ve done a great job. To my mechanic, to Antti, to everyone in the team, they’re being as professional they can be. At the moment I’m focusing on the rest of this year and we’ll see what happens next year.
