Latvian government finds the funds for MXGP

The Latvian government has decided to allocate €370,000 to the Latvian Motorsport Federation (LaMSF) for the purchase of a license for the World Motocross Championship.

At the beginning of December, it was not clear whether the state would be able to provide support for the Latvian MXGP stage, so its operation was at risk. Last week, the government accepted a request from the National Sports Council to allocate €370,000 in contingency funding to this need.

With the support of the state, the Kegums “Golden Horse” motorcycle race has been organized since 2009. In 2017, an agreement was reached with MXGP organizers to include the Latvian Grand Prix in the competition calendar until 2020.

The Ministry of Education and Science (MoES) has stated that, according to the economic impact assessment of organizing the competition during this summer’s MXGP competition, the event has attracted around EUR 1.5 million in foreign funds to the Latvian economy. The MoES also notes that the Kegums MXGP stage is the most widely reported sporting event in Latvia, broadcast in more than 70 countries.

It is worth mentioning that the Latvian Grand Prix of 2019 is officially recognized as the best organized event of the World Motocross Championship last season.

In the 2020 season, Latvia will host the 11th round of the World Cup, qualifying on June 13th, and finals on June 14th.
