Irish Championship RD1: Results

The first round of the Irish Championship got underway in Vernon Mount at the weekend. It was Jason Meara and Stuart Edmonds who got their campaigns underway to a fantastic start. The latter who is just back on the bike after missing the first round of the British Championship decided to compete in both the MX1 and MX2 classes which meant six moto’s on the day to help get his fitness back.

In the MX2 class, it was Jason Meara who impressed and took a clean sweep on the day by winning all three moto’s, a perfect way to start the defence of his title he won in 2016. Jordan Keogh was impressive as he finished second twice and grabbed second overall.  Glenn McCormick isn’t back to full fitness yet but should only continue to improve, he took two solid results in a third and a fourth but unfortunately suffered from a DNF.

Cailum Meara decided at the last minute to compete despite an injury but managed to win the Grade B MX2 class despite riding in pain.

After a crash in race one for Stuart Edmonds he could manage to get back to fourth as Richard Bird won the first moto of the day. It was going to be hard for Edmonds to win the overall as his day didn’t get off to a great start.

However, he was able to win the next two moto’s of the day and as Robert Hamilton beat Bird to second in the last moto of the day it meant Edmonds got the overall victory a point ahead of Bird.

Ronan Potterton won the grade B MX1 class ahead of Bob Symth.

The Ulster Championship gets underway on Easter Monday, the 17th April at Desertmartin, it should be a good one!
