Interview: Roan van de Moosdijk on his EMX250 podium!

Young Dutch talent, Roan van de Moosdijk has been knocking on the podium for quite a while and he finally made it happen in France.

The Dutch talent could be one to watch in the future as he has a lot of potential and working with David Philippaerts has really helped bring him on and improve.

Believe it or not, the ASTES4-TESAR Yamaha rider hadn’t been on the podium for two years but it all changed in France as he finished with a 3-9 scorecard to round off the podium with a third overall.

Now he’s finally bagged himself a podium in the EMX250 series he’ll want to get on the podium again as many times as possible during the rest of the season. He certainly has the speed but consistency can be a problem at times and that’s an area he can improve in.

We caught up with van de Moosdijk to discuss his impressive podium in France.

Gatedrop: Roan, you finally got on the podium in France, just how great did it feel to get on the box?

Roan van de Moosdijk: It was amazing to be back on the podium. Especially because my last podium was 2 years ago so me and David were going crazy!!

Gatedrop: You went 3-9 to secure third overall, after just an okay second moto did you know that was enough to get on the box straight after the race or did someone have to tell you?

Roan van de Moosdijk: No, I didn’t know it at all. The pit lane area was so muddy so it was really difficult to look to the guys at the end of each lap. After I finished the race I rode back and saw David screaming and did crazy moves so at this moment I knew I was on the podium.

Gatedrop: You’ve been knocking on the door for a podium for a while now, have you been frustrated with your results this year before France? I’d say your speed doesn’t match your results!

Roan van de Moosdijk: Yes, I’m a bit disappointing because I showed the speed almost every time during the timed practice. Yes, I had some good results but just one moto and not a whole weekend, it’s very important to be consistent.

Gatedrop: You’ve took two really big crashes this year, can you just talk me thought those crashes? You were lucky to walk away!

Roan van de Moosdijk: Yes in Russia I came up to short on a step down and went immediately sideways. In England my feet came off the peg and had a rodeo ride.

Gatedrop: What’s the EMX250 series like this year compared to last year? It seems like the first few laps of all the moto’s this year has been full of drama which makes the starts important!

Roan van de Moosdijk: That’s right, there are so many crashes in the first few laps compared to last year. I don’t know the reason but you have to take a good start and stay out of trouble.

Gatedrop: You made the jump up from the 125cc last year, I think you’re more suited to the 250cc, would you agree and why do you think that is?

Roan van de Moosdijk: Yes, I totally agree because I am a rider that really likes the response and the power on the bottom of the bike.

Gatedrop: Being Dutch you must be happy that you’re good on both hard pack and sand conditions? A lot of Dutch riders struggle with hard pack!

Roan van de Moosdijk: Already with the 65cc I did European Championships on hard pack tracks so I know how to ride them and sometimes it is more fun to ride on hard pack because i ride so many hours in the sand.

Gatedrop: What’s it like having David Philippaerts behind you and how’s he help you? He’s an ex World Champ after all!

Roan van de Moosdijk: It’s my third year working with David and I’m still learning from him every day. The biggest thing is his experience and of course he knows how to become a world champion.

Gatedrop: What’s your goals for the rest of the season?

Roan van de Moosdijk: My goal is to be consistent every moto and try to make as many podiums as possible.

Gatedrop: This is your second year in the EMX250 series, the next step for you is the MX2 World Championship – is that were you’d wanna be in 2019 and have you discussed the possibility with your current team?

Roan van de Moosdijk: Yes, I want to make the step to the MX2 World Championship. That’s my goal but for now we haven’t made any plans with the team.

Gatedrop: Do you plan on doing any MX2 World Championship rounds before the end of the season when there’s no EMX250 round?

Roan van de Moosdijk: The team asked me to ride in Imola at the end of the season. For now the focus is on the EMX250 Championship.
