Marvin Musquin comes into Tampa 41 points down on Jason Anderson after a difficult season that has included an injured shoulder and even getting taken down by Jason during the year. But the Frenchman isn’t giving up his title hopes, and after two podiums and his shoulder feeling better, Musquin is ready to do battle at the front once again.
Our man Doug Turney caught up with Marvin in Tampa and asked about his run-ins with Anderson and Peick and also got his pick on who would win the MXGP title this year!
A couple of run-ons on the track with Jason and Weston, do think it’s because you are one of the riders going for the championship?
I don’t think so, everyone is just trying to go for postion, but yes there are some guys that go for the block pass and you have to see it coming, you have to be careful and be on the protective side sometimes because they cut the whole corner pretty tight. I didn’t see him (Peick) coming just like what Anderson did to me in Oakland, it’s a hard situation but I have to deal with it and be smart.
Aldon is the trainer for you and Jason, does he get involved in anything?
We try to have it clean and respectful, like Jason said sometimes he doesn’t make good decisions but that’s kind of easy to say when you are off the bike. But you have to deal with it and make it happen yourself too.
Besides the injury how do you feel about your riding this year, are you happy with it?
It’s better now for sure and we learn a lot with the new bike, the off-season was good and going well but obvioualy the injury doesn’t really help and that’s why we are in a bad situation but we are getting back to it.
Any predications for MXGP this year?
I can Antonio is going really, really well this year, he is really impressive and strong, I am thinking Antonio is going to be really good.
Do you miss riding the European circuit?
Not really, I feel really good here in the US and everything is going good – and I love supercross!
