Interview: Evgeny Bobryshev on Arenacross UK and his MXGP deal!

Ever since leaving the HRC Honda MXGP team, Evgeny Bobryshev has faced a bit of an uncertain future with regards to the MXGP World Championship.

The Russian signed with the Lombard express Suzuki UK team to focus on racing in the UK as well as the Arenacross series with the help of Neil Prince.

However, once Benoit Paturel left the BOS team, a new team in the MXGP paddock for 2018, Bobby inked a deal with the team to ride the MXGP World Championship in 2018. He’s signed a late deal meaning he’s a little behind in preparation but he had a solid day at Hawkstone so it shouldn’t take him long to get into the swing of things once the MXGP World Championship gets underway.

We caught up with Bobby after Hawkstone to discuss a range of topics – a special thanks goes to him for this interview as he did it in his van while he was leaving the track!

Gatedrop: Bobby, you’ve just had your first Motocross race of the year at Hawkstone, how did your day go?

Evgeny Bobryshev: Yeah, it was okay. We’ve just been getting more and more information from the bike and myself so everything was going well. We still have lots of work to do in the future with the setting up of the bike. With the engine I’ve been happy, we just need to look at the settings to get me more comfortable. At the moment I’m not at 100%, I’m around 70%, we were more just collecting data today and that’s all.

Gatedrop: You’ve been doing the Arenacross UK series, how is that going for you and are you enjoying it? It’s something different for you!

Evgeny Bobryshev:  Yeah, it’s very different. For sure, you need to get used to it. In my case I came late there and then I start riding, it’s a bit difficult doing that. You know, I’ve been enjoying the Arenacross but for sure to be more wild there and having more flow, I need to train on the same kind of tracks. The guys there, they’re doing it all the time and that helps them.

Gatedrop:  Because you’ve been doing the Arenacross UK series, do you feel you’ve maybe come into this race a bit unprepared and are you a little worried you might be a bit unprepared for Argentina too compared to usual?

Evgeny Bobryshev: No, it’s good for me, like I said to get some information. It was alright for me and it will help me prepare for Argentina.

Gatedrop: You signed a late deal with the BOS MXGP team, how did the deal come about and you must be pleased to do all 19 rounds of MXGP this year?

Evgeny Bobryshev:  Yeah, it’s a bit late and we are doing the testing and running with the different settings a bit late but I will try to catch up with the time. It’s alright and I’m happy that I’m doing the full MXGP series, that’s good!

Gatedrop: What are your goals for the MXGP World Championship for the season ahead?

Evgeny Bobryshev: We will just see what happens but top five for sure, I want to do it. I want to be in the top three fighting for the podium.
