Interview: Emilio Scuteri – I hope to win the EMX125 Championship!

With the EMX125 championship getting underway this weekend, we caught up with Italian youngster Emilio Scuteri. It will be Scuteri’s third year in the class on his Celestini KTM meaning he will be one of the more experienced riders in the series which could help him.

At the end of last season it started to click for him and he started to show us what he could really do. However, he has had a setback during the winter with an injury to his knee which means he won’t be 100% at the first round of the series.

We get some thoughts from Scuteri on the season ahead.

On your winter preparation..

This article continues below

My preparation for the season started late because I had an injury in November. I was back on the bike at the end of December and I had a good month of hard  training in Sardinia.  I broke a ligament in my knee and now I’ riding with the ligament broke. I’m not 100% ready yet, but I’ve already worked hard to get as fit as possible for  the first race of European championship!

On the 2017 EMX125 series..

For sure I could do better because my speed was good to be at the front but I made too many mistakes in some races and I couldn’t do my best because of that. The series has helped me grow because it is a hard category coming from the 85cc!

On the International Italian Championship..

I’m happy with my first races this year, I got even a victory and my speed was good even though I was not 100%.

On the Celestini KTM team and having Matteo Puccinelli a 250cc rider as his team mate..

There is a good feeling between us and especially with my mechanic Jeremy, who is always by my side! Myself and Matteo train every day together and it’s nice because there’s more motivation and training with another strong rider, it definitely helps me grow.

On preparation in the sand..

Yes I spent much time in the sand this winter even with my physical preparation and now I’m ready for the first round of EMX125 series.

On the 2018 EMX125 series..

The tracks are good for the season ahead and I like them. I hope I can win the championship this year. I know there are some good, fast riders and many of them can win.

Emilio would like to take this opportunity to thank his team – the Celestini Racing Team,  his mechanic, his family and all of his sponsors.
