Horgmo shows good speed in Portugal!

Under very difficult conditions in Agueda, Kevin Hormgo managed to bring home a second-place moto finish during the Grand Prix of Portugal. The Norwegian finished second in the second moto and was just edged out for the moto win. Due to a bad first moto, the CreyMert KTM rider only managed tenth overall on the day. The victory went to Mathys Boisrame, with British rider, Mel Pocock taking over the championship lead. Kevin Horgmo sits eleventh in the series after two rounds.

The weekend got off to a great start for Horgmo as he put in the quickest qualifying time of his group to grab pole position. When the gate dropped for the first moto, Horgmo didn’t get the best of drive which meant he was buried down the pack. However, Horgmo was flying in the early laps as he quickly got himself into the top ten. However, perhaps pushing too hard he crashed a few times which cost him big time.  He could only finish in thirtieth which meant no championship points.

Motivated to put the first race behind him, Horgmo took a much better start as he was battling for the top positions. On the first lap, Horgmo and Pocock nearly collided but the Norwegian could find his way past the Brit. The next man on his radar was Boisrame and Horgmo found away past which meant he lead in the EMX250 class for the first time. However, a small crash put him behind the French rider again but Horgmo was all over the Assomotor Honda rider on the last lap. In the end Boisrame just did enough to hold on by 0.272 of a second. It was a good moto for Horgmo as it confirms he has the speed to win.

Kevin Horgmo: Overall it was a good weekend for me, to have again the fastest time in the timed practice was a perfect start to the weekend. Unfortunately I had too many mistakes in race 1, but I bounced back in race 2.

Next race:

The EMX250 Championship continues in Russia on the 30th April and 1st May where Horgmo will be back in action for the CreyMert KTM team. The EMX125 series will continue in Latvia on the 12th and 13th May.
