Jeffrey Herlings has written a lengthy Instagram post updating his fans and admitted he stepped away from the sport for a few weeks after his latest injury.
The world champ said: “It’s difficult physically and especially mentally not to be lining up this weekend,” before going on to say he was feeling great in the off-season and even better than 2018.
But then Herlings revealed, “I feel like I let many people down,” after admitting he “shattered his foot” before the season. The fastest man on the planet also reflected: “being fast is one thing but being at all the races is another and for some reason I haven’t succeeded well at the second part.”
He also said his circle of friends has narrowed: “Hard times teaches us valuable lessons and hard times reveal true friends.”
Herlings said he is now motivated for the second part of his career but doesn’t know as yet when he will return to action.“ For now I do not really know yet when I will be back to racing and what my plans are for the rest of the season. I’ve had many injuries in my career but the last weeks I’ve stepped back from the sport and re-charged my batteries for the second part of my career I would say.”
But Herlings ended on a positive note, vowing to get back on top: “We will be back on top before we know, And believe me, we are going to be back to no.1.”
