Round nine of the MXGP series heads to Matterley Basin this weekend and Josh Gilbert has secured a wild card ride to contest his first ever MX2 World Championship.
Gilbert is riding the best he ever has at the moment as he sits second in the MX2 Maxxis British Championship which shows just how much he’s improved this season.
With a round of the EMX250 Championship taking place at Matterley, Gilbert could have opted to contest that series instead but he we’ll see him compete with the best MX2 riders in the world.
Gilbert will be competing the event on his Honda Adventure Centre and will be hoping to learn as much as possible during the first MX2 Grand Prix of his career.
Josh Gilbert: I’ve decided to give the MX2 world championship a go. I’ve always wanted to get to the world stage and I feel that now is the time to see what it’s like. I’ve had a good start to the season in the British and I feel my speed, fitness and confidence is good so why not give MX2 a crack?
I would like to score points, but we’ll see how it goes. I’m just going to go there with an open mind, with no pressure and I’ll just give it 100%.
I’d just like to thank everyone that’s helped me so far, the years started mega so just got to keep it going!
