Gabriel Motocross reflect on a strange season

The Covid-19 pandemic may have caused major disruption to the motocross season but the Gabriel Motocross team is still celebrating today thanks to the riders’ talent, focus and determination.

Despite several race cancellations and a pause on training in the height of the nationwide lockdown earlier this year, the Gabriel Motocross team, sped to victory in the season’s final event last weekend, thanks to a stellar performance from rider John Adamson. 

During the Michelin MX Nationals, which were held at Doncaster’s Fatcat Motoparc, John competed in both the Moto 1 and Moto 2 races. With injured teammate Liam on the side-line, sadly missing this final event of the season. In the Moto 1 race, John gated well against a very strong field and managed to run with the front pack. He finished a very respectable 6th and nearly 30 seconds ahead of 7th place.  

For Moto 2, John started in 12th place but by the end of lap one he had managed to push through to 7th. As the pace progressed, John dug deep and continued to move forward, crossing the finishing line in 4th to secure a podium spot of 3rd overall on the day.

John’s efforts helped him to achieve 8th in the championship overall.

Commenting on performance this season, Team Manager Simon Gabriel said, “This season has been like nothing we’ve ever faced before but I must praise John and Liam for their resilience and focus throughout. They have a lot of people depending on them – their fans, their sponsors and the wider team – and after these results, I’m even more excited about the 2021 season.”

Having started Motocross at the age of six, 23 year old John Adamson had an outstanding 2019 finishing 10th in the 2019 British Championships. Described as dedicated and gifted, he was offered a spot on the Gabriel Motocross team the very first time Simon Gabriel saw him ride.  

Also aged 23 is Liam Knight who started racing Motocross at only four years old. Liam is a proven race winner at British Championship level, stepping up from the MX2 into the MX1 on a 450 KTM last season.
