Filip Bengtsson update

Filip Bengtsson update

No rehab programme, nor a specific treatment or sheer willpower can speed up recovery from a concussion. It’s a tough lesson Sweden’s fastest motocross rider Filip Bengtsson (23) comes to learn in his first complete MXGP season. The 24MX Honda rider and his team have now decided to sit out the next two GP’s rather than risk compromising a successful comeback.

After a serious concussion earlier in the season in Valkenswaard Bengtsson continued to race the next two weekends. Still suffering with the symptoms from his concussion in Talavera Filip was prescribed complete rest. While the 23-year old from Sankt Olof has restarted his physical training he needs more time to build up his bike fitness again. This also means Bengtsson will pull out of the iconic Kester motocross in Belgium where he was due to make his first appearance this weekend.

Filip Bengtsson:  “Together with the team and Honda Europe we’ve made the decision to postpone my comeback. Luckily I feel a lot better and I’m completely recovered. As far as my  current speed in the MXGP class would go we have to be realistic. Racing yourself back into shape at this level is not the best option for me. The calendar is also pretty packed with back-to-back GP’s in Maggiora and Teutschenthal. I know where I am now and we have a solid plan to get back up to speed and return to MXGP racing in Uddevalla. The week before the Swedish GP I will compete in the SM (Swedish championship) round of Västerås.”
