Eli Tomac: A small mistake cost me

Eli Tomac was in good spirits despite losing out on the overall win at the Monster Energy Cup to his teammate Adam Cianciarulo after a great battle in the third and final deciding moto of the night in Las Vegas.

“What a battle,” commented Tomac on the duel with his rookie teammate. “We came to race and put on a show and that’s exactly what we did. My team set me up with a great bike; I felt good and was having fun all day. A small mistake cost me but I can honestly say that was some of the most fun I’ve had in a while. After riding with Adam a few times out in California, I knew we would be battling like this so I’m just happy we could take the 1-2 for the entire Kawasaki team.

“We had a pace going there,” admitted Tomac. “It was gnarly, we both had our spots on the track for sure, I tried to do something different (taking the Joker Lane before the last lap), we were both going so fast it was hard to make anything stick.”

In regards to how racing an event like Monster Cup pushes you beyond a practice pace, Tomac said: “You can never replicate that race situation, as you can see tonight, each race had its own drama, it’s so hard to replicate at the practice track, you really find out what you like and what you don’t like in a racing environment, we were out there going for it.”

It sets up an exciting season for factory Monster Energy Kawasaki who now have two elite level riders in Tomac, and now Cianciarulo, as both look capable of putting the Kawasaki at the front of the pack in 2020. But will they stay as friendly as they are now if both are in title contention!?
