Over the last few days rumours have been surfacing that Honda’s Gautier Paulin would switch to the AMA Nationals this season after missing some rounds of MXGP due to injury.

Initially put down to an April fool, the story had gathered momentum over the weekend with even French website Moto Verte running a story on it. With no wins for Honda so far in supercross and Gajser and Bobreyshev doing well for the brand in MXGP, it could be argued if you are Honda Japan that Paulin ( who now trains in Florida with Aldon Baker) could turn Honda’s fortune around in America and, with the US Nationals not starting until May, give the Frenchman fresh motivation with a new championship for compete for once he is recovered from his injury.

However a source within Honda’s MXGP team confirmed that this mid-season change of championship will not be happening, saying: “That would be news to me. We are just planning with his medical side when it will be ok for him to return to racing in MXGP.”

So don’t expect Gautier Paulin to be racing in the USA this season – except for the last two US GPs!
