British Championship RD1 – This weekend!

The UK motocross season was supposed to get underway at the weekend with the first round of the MX Nationals but unfortunately the event had to be cancelled due to the weather leaving a waterlogged track.
However, good news for the riders is that they haven’t got long to wait for some competitive racing with the first round of the Maxxis British Championship taking place at Culham this Sunday. The riders will be eager for that first race of the season! As far the weather, the event shouldn’t be in danger of being cancelled as the weather forecast is only giving light showers prior to the event.
The British Championships are both wide open for the year ahead. Defending MX2 Champ, Adam Sterry is focusing on the GP’s this year so his absence in the series leaves it open to the likes of Ben Watson and Martin Barr to mount a serious title challenge.
The MX2 series will also have new International talent in the form of Josiah Natzke, Kevin Wouts, Jay Wilson and Harri Kullas who will be very competitive. Add in the young hungry riders who go into the season without any pressure like Jake Millward, Liam Knight, Brad Todd and anything could happen!
In the MX1 class, Tommy Searle will be absent from round one as he is still injured. Sterry proved in the MX2 class last year that you can miss a round and still win the title. There is no doubting that Searle will want to do the same and win the title for the second year in a row.
However, with Searle’s absence from round one you have to fancy Jake Nicholls to be big favourite for the title on his Hitachi KTM UK machine. Don’t rule out Graeme Irwin and Kristian Whatley either though as they will be keen to run with the GP guns on a regular basis.
It’s shaping up to be a great year in the British scene and it all kicks off this Sunday at Culham! Make sure you come back throughout the week as we will have plenty of previews on the site.
