British Championship – Desertmartin: One month to go!

It’s exactly one month to go until round five of the Maxxis British Championship that takes place at Desertmartin! The countdown is well and truly on for the biggest race of the year to take place in Northern Ireland.

Last year it was Martin Barr who had a red plate in front of his home crowd but this year is Graeme Irwin’s turn as he leads the way in the MX1 class by just four points. The Carrickfergus man will need everyone out in full force on the 18th June supporting him so he can keep hold of his championship lead.

In MX2, Barr may not have the red plate like this time last year but he sits third in the championship and gained points on Kullas at Hawkstone. He’s on thirteen points behind Kullas in the chase for second. The Irish fans did a great job getting behind him last year so hopefully it’s the same this year – if not better!

Stuart Edmonds has put in some impressive rides as he’s in and around the top ten on his TM which is impressive. He could be knocking on the door of the top five at Desertmartin. Hopefully, Richard Bird puts in an entry as he has been in impressive form in 2017 and there’s no reason why he couldn’t be in the hunt for top ten finishes.

In MX2 the locals will be able to get behind the likes of Jason Meara, Luke Smith and Glenn McCormick plus the wildcards that decide to enter.

One month to go – we can’t wait!
