Bobby Bounces Back in Germany!

With fond memories of the double moto win at the Teutschenthal circuit in 2011, expectations were high for Evgeny Bobryshev heading into the 2018 MXGP of Germany. A 10th fastest lap in timed practice and an 11th place finish in the qualifying race on Saturday gave the BOS GP rider a respectable gate pick for Sundays proceedings.

A smart gate choice saw Bobryshev emerge from the first turn of race one in 12th place. He quickly moved up in to 11th, just behind Jeremy Seewer and Glen Coldenhoff. On a technical track that was rough and rutted, it was very difficult to pass. With two laps to go however, Bobryshev continued his good rhythm and passed Seewer for 10th place, holding that position to the flag.

In race two another solid start put Bobryshev in 11th position around the first corner. A mistake by Seewer saw Bobryshev quickly move into 10th place behind Tony Cairoli and Glen Coldenhoff. A crash involving Jeremy Van Horebeek promoted Bobryshev to the eighth-place position. With 17 minutes to go Evgeny made a mistake of his own and narrowly missed a crash. Although the incident didn’t cost him any places the moment saw Bobby lose some five or six seconds on the riders in front. He also tweaked his ankle in the incident, which made it difficult for the Russian to find the same flow and pull back the time he had lost. With two laps to go Max Nagl found a way past, meaning Bobryshev crossed the line in ninth position. This was good enough for a solid eighth place overall for the GP.

Evgeny Bobryshev- “I had a positive weekend for sure finishing eighth. I had good battles with a few riders, but it was really difficult to pass on this track as it’s been really rough and tricky, with deep ruts in many places. I had a good, steady first race without any problems, but the second race was more difficult for me. I had a good rhythm but made a big mistake and almost crashed. We had a good result in Portugal and now another one here in Germany. I hope we can do some more work with the bike in the future as I’m still using the same engine and I still need more to get out of the start better.’’
