Who impressed: MXGP class in Switzerland

Jeffrey Herlings: The world championship leader suffered some adversity on Saturday when he went down on turn one but Herlings powered through the field to eighth, then on the last lap passed two more riders to nab sixth. His motivation is undiminished in whatever race he is in and by Sunday things were back to normal with a calm win in race one and after a close battle with Desalle and Febvre Herlings pulled away to win race two.  In fact it was his rival Cairoli, who saw Herlings getting away in race one who made the mistake as Herlings once more overcame what could have been a tough GP and made it his own. Herlings has the blinkers on right now and isn’t letting anything stand in his way of the MXGP title he wants so badly.

Romain Febvre – Febvre rode superbly all weekend and even passed Jeffrey Herlings back in race one, he is one rider who isn’t intimidated by the Dutchman and  he fully deserved his second overall, in fact Febvr was as close to Herlings’ pace as anyone has been recently. He showed why is in the French MXoN team and showing what he can do now he is back to full health – even his starts are good!

Febvre stated: “I’m really happy with this weekend. Since Lommel, and before as well we have been working on the start, so I was really happy to start inside the top-three in both races today. It is much easier to start up front in this class. This weekend I felt I had the speed. I felt good and fast all weekend so it is good that I was able to finish on the podium as that is the goal every weekend.”

Glenn Coldenhoff – Glenn Coldenhoff came very close to a podium but was frustratingly just short in 4th overall in Switzerland. However, yet again, Glenn rode really well and showed what he could do when he starts up front. With his future secured at Standing Construct KTM fro next season Coldenhoff is riding relaxed and showing his true potential and with the MXoN coming round and the Netherlands having a big shot of the title, Coldenhoff appears to be coming into form at the just the right time!

Shaun Simpson – The Scot has been really good for the last couple of GPs and ninth overall in Switzerland shows that Shaun still has the speed and the desire to compete with the best guys in the world – he just needed to finally be healthy again! Simpson, with the British MXoN team still undecided, has thrown his hat back into the ring with his performances and his results will do no harm for the Scot as he looks for  ride for 2019.

Simpson said: ”After a disappointing qualifying race, I got up this morning, regrouped and made some small changes to the bike. I felt good in warm-up. Today I came from outside the top-ten to ninth, and I really feel like I have done myself justice today with two top-ten finishes. I am definitely happy with how this weekend went, and looking forward to next week.”
